New York Jets tight end Bubba Franks said his former Packers team mate Brett Favre was as good as ever despite complaining on Wednesday of a tired arm after five days of practice with his new team.
Favre, 38, told reporters his right arm was "dragging"
after the morning practice, the New York Daily News reported.
Franks, reunited with Favre after the Green Bay Packers traded the three-times NFL Most Valuable Player to the Jets, said Favre was his old self.
"He still has it,"
Franks said of the nine-times Pro Bowl quarterback who has one of the strongest throwing arms in the
NFL.
"I think you can ask the receivers, he still has it. He is making incredible plays, plays I have seen my whole career. It's the first time for these guys to see it. I am just sitting back laughing all day during practice."
Franks, in comments distributed by the Jets, said he thought Favre would be ready to compete in Saturday's pre-season game against the Washington Redskins.
"He has learned the system pretty fast. I was pretty surprised,"
Franks said. "There are times when it can seem difficult but he finds a way to get out of it. That is Brett Favre just give him two or three plays and he is good to go."
"It's going to go fine. We are going to go out there and have fun. You're going to see Favre the big kid again out there. It's going to be fun."
Favre changed his mind this year about a retirement he announced after last season. However he was not made welcome by the Packers who had already turned to understudy Aaron Rodgers.
