Justin Miller to Start?
Is Justin Miller going to be the opening day starter for the New York Jets at the second CB spot? It seems that Daily News beatwriter Rich Cimini thinks so:
From Ira: Do you think Justin Miller will be the starting cornerback opposite Darrelle Revis?
Ira: Yes, I do. Based on everything I saw at camp, the job is Miller’s to lose. When healthy, he brings so much more athleticism to the position than David Barrett and Hank Poteat. This is a contract year for Miller, so he should be highly motivated.
What a long strange trip it’s been for Miller. You can’t really blame him for the injury last season, that was out of his control, but if there’s anything positive from it, you’d just hope it’s given him the time to appreciate what an opportunity he has, and it sounds like he’s making the best of it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Physically, he has the tools to be a starter in the league, but it’s what is between his ears that has been the major limiter of his career. The guy is in the last year of his contract, so hopefully he’s gotten his wake up call and realizes this is basically his big chance to make a huge payday. I hope he’s ready to play this year, because this team needs a consistent second corner and David Barrett isn’t one to oblige when the word consistent is involved.
