Jets fined disgruntled tight end Chris Baker $3,000 for missing an injury-treatment session after he tweaked his back on the second day of mandatory minicamp. Baker, of course, will appeal the fine through the NFL Players Association.
What this all means is that Baker's very public contract dispute with the Jets appears likely to become just as contentious as Pete Kendall's did last summer.
--The Jets announced that they have reorganized their senior management team in the wake of the resignation of team president Jay Cross, who became the president of Related Hudson Yards. Coincidentally, or more likely not, Cross spearheaded the Jets' efforts to build a new stadium for the team on the west side of Manhattan, on the Hudson Rail Yards. Instead, he now will assist Related Hudson Yards in its plans of developing a neighborhood on that land.
Nobody was named to replace Cross. Instead, three of the Jets' executives will now hold titles of executive vice president. They are general manager Mike Tannenbaum, executive vice president of business operations Matt Higgins and executive vice president of stadium development and finance Thad Sheely.
--The Jets signed former Miami safety Cameron Worrell to add to their secondary depth. Worrell, who started seven games and had 56 tackles and one pass breakup last season, was released by the Dolphins in April after he failed a physical. Worrell missed the last four games of the 2007 season after suffering a torn ACL.
Worrell, who began his NFL career with Chicago in 2003 as an undrafted free agent, is considered to be a strong special-teams player.
